FIRST Tech Challenge Team 5466, The Combustible Lemons – Helping shape the future and building lemon squeezing robots since 2011
2016-17 St. Louis World Championship INspire winners
Who are We?
We are the FIRST Tech Challenge Team 5466, better known as the Combustible Lemons from Davenport West High School, located in Davenport, Iowa. Our team members range from grades 9-12, and each of them bring their own level of experience. Want to know more about the members of the Combustible Lemons? More information can be found in the Team Overview section of this website.
What do we do?
We design, build, program, and test robots to compete in FIRST Tech Challenge, one of FIRST's four programs, and we share our work with our community. Each year we are given a new game, which means a new solution for us to solve.
Our strong sustainability has allowed us continue the Combustible Lemons for a long time. The 2016-2017 season will be our sixth year, as we started in 2011. Through the years we have sent Lemons off to college, with new members filling the void they leave. Our team's alumni still come to mentor the current members in anyway possible. We have gone to the FTC World Championships four times, with the second time finishing in the elimination matches. Also, in 2015-16 we were in the Iowa finalist alliance at the North Super Regional. During the 2016-17 season, we were the first place St. Louis World Championship Inspire winners!
What is first?
FIRST is a non-profit organization that was founded to help students in grades k-12 learn about Science, Technology, Math, and Engineering and prepare students for careers in these areas. Even if the student does not choose a S.T.E.M. related career, what they have learned will still be very helpful. Many well known companies including John Deere, Arconic (formerly ALCOA), and Rockwell Collins, to name a few, support areas of the program and teams in the programs.
